UNB :
The price of broiler chicken has started falling after continuous rising over the last couple of days.
After announcement of selling of broiler chicken price at the firm's gate at Tk 190-195 per kg by the country's four big poultry firms, the broiler chicken price has started falling at the retail level.
Visiting different kitchen markets in capital Dhaka on Friday morning, it was found that traders were selling broiler chicken at Tk 245-250 per kg which was Tk 270-280 a kg on Thursday.
Besides, the price of Sonali variety of chicken has also witnessed somewhat decline. Each kilogram was being sold at Tk 350-360. On Thursday, the broiler chicken was being sold at Tk 260-270, while Sonali chicken was being sold at Tk 360-380.
During the visit to Kawran Bazar kitchen market in the capital, it was also found that chicken selling shops were comparatively less crowded, because demand of chicken declined due to the closure of most of the hotels and restaurants during the Ramadan.
A seller said he was selling broiler chicken at Tk 250 a kg and Sonali variety chicken at Tk 370 per kg. Asked how much were they cost at wholesale level, he said he bought broiler at 235 per kg and Sonali variety at Tk 340 per kg at wholesale level.
Another retail chicken trader asked what would do they do unless the prices fell at wholesale level at firms. "If the firms sell chicken at low prices, we will also be able to sell at low rates," he said.
