Road mishaps leave 5 dead in Dhaka, Jhalokathi and Cumilla

At least five people were killed and fifteen hurt in separate road mishaps in Dhaka, Jhalokathi and Cumilla on Friday.
In Dhaka, a 70-year-old man was killed when a bus of Welcome Paribahan hit him while he was crossing the road.
The deceased was crossing the Gulistan GPO Maingate intersection at around 6:30 p.m. on Thursday when the bus hit him reports UNB.
Police officers on patrol rushed him to the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH).
The doctors pronounced him dead at around 7:15 p.m.
Inspector Bachchu Miah, in-charge of the DMCH police outpost, said on Friday the body was kept in the morgue for an autopsy.
In Jhalokathi, two people were killed and at least 15 hurt on the Barishal-Patharghata highway on Friday as a BRTC bus crashed into a tree in Rajapur upazila, the police said.
The deceased were identified as bus passenger Md Parvez, 35, and supervisor Md Mehedi, 45. Further details about them could not immediately be known, reports UNB.
Pulik Chandra Roy, officer-in-charge (OC) of Rajapur Police Station, said the accident occurred around 9:45am in the Kanudashkathi area after the Patharghata-bound bus hit a tree by the roadside following an altercation between the driver and the supervisor.
The supervisor and a passenger died at the scene and at least 15 other people, who boarded the bus, were injured, he said.
The injured were taken to Bhandaria Upazila Health Complex and Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital.
"On information, police and the fire service rushed to the spot and recovered   
the bodies. Legal action will be taken in connection with the accident," the OC said. In Cumilla, two people were dead and two were injured after a bus rammed into a battery-run auto-rickshaw in Cumilla's Daudkandi upazila on Friday morning.
The deceased were identified as Yakub Ali, 30, son of Billal Hossain at Malikhil village in Daudkandi upazila, and Jotsna Begum, 55, wife of Abul Kashem in Chhotana village of Devidwar upazila.
The injured Nusrat Jahan,7, and auto driver Mazarul,38, were first admitted to Gouripur Hospital. Later, they were sent to Dhaka as their condition deteriorated.
Md Jahangir Alam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Daudkandi Highway Police Station, said a Cumilla-bound bus of Tisha Paribahan hit the auto-rickshaw in Dighirpar area on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway around 11:30 am, leaving Jotsna Begum dead on the spot.
Yakub Ali died on the way to the hospital, added the OC. Police seized the bus but its driver and helper managed to flee the scene, said the officer, adding that legal action will be taken in this regard.
