9 killed in road accidents in 3 districts

At least nine people, including three of a family killed and 12 others injured in road accidents in Dinajpur, Munshiganj, and Natore districts on Thursday.
Our Munshiganj correspondent reported that at least four people were killed and 18 others were injured in a road accident on Dhaka-Mawa Expressway in Shologhar area of Shreenagar upazila in Munshiganj in the morning.
Three of the deceased were identified as Hajera Begum, (50), Saiful Islam, (30), and Arif, (23).
Hasara highway police acting officer-in-charge Molla Zakir Hossain, quoting witnesses, said that the accident took place at about 9:00am as a Shariatpur-bound bus of Padma Travels hit a truck from back, leaving Hajera and Saiful dead on the spot.
The injured were sent to Shologhar Health Complex where Arif and another unidentified woman died from their injuries, said the hospital's emergency department doctor Farhana.
Four of the injured were sent to Dhaka as they were in a critical condition, she added.
Munshiganj police superintendent Mahfuz Al Mamun said that the bodies of Hajera and Saiful were handed over to their families.
In Dinajpur, four people, including three members of a family, were killed and two others were injured when a bus hit a three-wheeler carrying four people while overtaking a bus at Uchitpur in Chirirbandar upazila on Thursday.
The deceased were identified as Uttam, (35), son of Shankar, Uttam's wife Pallabi, (32), and their nine -year-old son Arnab of
Parbatipur upazila and Mahanta, (8), son of Palash Mahanta of Mirzapur in Nawabganj upazila.
Asaduzzaman Asad, officer-in-charge of Chirirbandar Police Station, said that the accident occurred at about 11:00am when the bus rammed into the three-wheeler while overtaking a bus, leaving two children dead on the spot and four others injured.
Of the injured, Uttam and his wife Pallabi died on way to a hospital while the two others were taken to a local hospital.
The family met the tragic accident while going to Sikdarhat to visit an herbal medicine practitioner in Sadar upazila.
Vehicular movement on Dinajpur-Gobindaganj regional highway remained suspended for two hours following the accident.
In Natore, Imon Hossain, (19), a student of  Sadhonpur Pangu Niketon College, was killed when a motorbike carrying him plunged into a roadside ditch after hitting an electric pole at Jagadishpur are in Naldanga upazila at about 12:00am.
