BSS, Jamalpur :
A day-long training on 'Tilapia Fish Fries Nursing' aimed at boosting fish production in the country was held at Islampur upazila on Wednesday.
A total of 20 fish cultivators of the upazila took part in the training organised by Upazila Fisheries Office at its training auditorium.
District Fisheries Officer Ranojit Kumar Paul, Dewanganj Upazila Fisheries Officer, ASM Sanwar Rasel and Islampur Upazila Fisheries Officer, Jannat-A-Hour addressed the fish farmers how to boost Tilapia production in shallow water.
The fisheries experts said the six unions of Islampur upazila are situated beside river Jamuna and most of the ponds and cannels in the areas bear shallow water during dry season.
Fish farmers cannot cultivate fish in shallow water but mono- sex-Tilapia grows in shallow water and can be harvested within 3 to 4 months. The fish cultivators can easily make profit by cultivating Tilapia, the experts added.
They urged fish farmers to cultivate mono sex-tilapia in the shallow water to get desired production and profit.
