Separate budget for coastal areas stressed

Speakers on Wednesday stressed on separate budget for the coastal areas aimed at improving the living standard of the people of the areas by sustaining its development activities.
The recommendation came from a discussion on "Impact of climate change, recent cyclone and protection of coastal areas" at IPD conference room of minister's hostel in the city, said a press release.
Water Resources Minister Anisul Islam Mahmud attended the discussion as the chief guest with Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Environment and Forests Ministry Dr Hasan Mahmud in the chair.
Anisul Islam said the government has taken various initiatives including strengthening the dams and CMB project for developing the coastal areas.
The discussion also suggested constructing embankments in the recommended areas of Coast Trust, forming a parliamentary caucus and a coastal board.
Among others, law makers A KH M Jahangir Hossain, Talukder M Yunus, Talukdar Abdul Khaleque, AK Shahjahan, Mustafa Lutfullah, M Nobi Newaz, Panchanan Biswas, Tipu Sultan, Nahim Razzaq, MA Awal, Rahim Ullah, Jebunnesa Afroz, Ali Azam, M Ilias and Asheq Ullah Rafique spoke on the occasion.
