BNP men's illegal fish project on Hindus' land: Over 100 Hindu farmers in Lalmonirhat facing difficulties in farming

Over hundred of Hindu farmers are facing difficulties in farming crops especially paddy in their lands at Dulali Beel located at Falimari village of Aditmari upazila in Lalmonirhat as a group of local BNP men started farming fishes on the beel stopping the water flow through givingghearo by bana (bamboo made net) illegally.
The organised BNP men violated the order of Aditmari Upazila Nirbahi Officer UNO regarding removing of the bana (bamboo made net) from the beel by last 25 July.
The Hindu farmers, also owners of the lands in the beel formed a human chain demanding removal of the bana assuring the water flow to farming crops in their lands at beside the beal in the village on Friday morning.
Local Hindu farmers submitted a written complain to the Deputy Commissioner in Lalmonirhat on June 10 that without consulting, taking permission jointly Velabari Union Parishad UP chairman, also the Aditmari upazila unit BNP president Mohammad Ali and his brothers BNP activists Babul Hossain, Shawkat Hossain, cousins Mizanur Rahman, Nizam Uddin and his nephew Rasel Miah started farming fishes on the beal with about 800 bighas of land stopping the water flow through giving gherao by bana (bamboo made net) illegally.
“We have been farming aman and boro paddy in our lands in the beel every year, and the beel being used as free water body where all the villagers catch fishes openly and they meet-up family’s demand of fish,” Hindu farmers said adding now nobody even the land owners aren’t allowed catching fishes in the beel as BNP men making protest showing the causer of their fish project.
Local Hindu farmer also the owner of 25 bighas of land in the beel Protap Chandra Roy said, they will not get bumper production of crop from their lands in the beel due to illegal fish project by BNP men.
“BNP men didn’t talking and sharing about the matter with us, and we will never allow the fish project in our farming lands,” he said adding they didn’t protest against the BNP men as they are muscle in the locally.
“We get huge local variety fishes in this beel and it keeps opening to all the village people. We the land owners are depended on the crops especially paddy gotten from the lands in the beel,” said Hindu farmer Sibindra Nath Roy, also owner of eight bigahs of land in the beel.
District Administration Official sources said, after visiting the spot the Aditmari Upazila Nirbahi Officer UNO Rezaul Alam Sarker served a notice to the illegally fish farmers in the beel on 10 July directing to remove the illegal bana (bamboo made net) from the beel assuring water flow to farming crops by 25 July.
When contacted to the Velabari Union Parishad UP chairman, also the president of Aditmari upazila unit BNP Mohammad Ali said he isn’t involved with the fish project, so he doesn’t aware about UNO’s order.
