More than 51 per cent or 4,849 factories, including textile and garment factories under the jurisdiction of industrial police except in the Dhaka Metropolitan area, are yet to pay the monthly wage for the month of March.
As of Monday, the non-payment percentage for festival allowance is 18.65 per cent or a total of 1,766 units out of 9,469 factories, according to Industrial Police data.
Out of the total 9,469 factories, some 4,620 have paid the monthly wage for the month of March until 5:00 pm today (Monday), data showed.
Some 920 garment factories registered with Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), about 435 units listed with Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) and a total of 170 Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BGMEA) members are yet to pay March wages.
A total of 76 BEPZA units and 18 jute mills also did not pay the March wage, while some 3,230 non-RMG units are also listed by the IP that did not pay the March salary.
Meanwhile, 181 BGMEA members, 144 BKMEA members, 26 BTMA mills, nine BEPZA units, 10 jute mills, and 1,396 non-RMG units listed with IP jurisdiction did not pay festival allowance, according to IP data.
