‘Parents can play vital role in stopping drug abuse’

State Minister for Public Administration Farhad Hossain said that parents, teachers and religious leaders can play a vital role in encouraging young generation to refrain from drug abuse.
“A nationwide awareness campaign is underway involving various educational
institutions to make the new generation aware about the harmful impacts of
taking drugs mainly to prevent drug abuse,” he said this while speaking as the chief guest at a mass awareness meeting held at the Deputy Commissioner’s
conference room in Khulna.
Anti-drug Task Force along with different professional bodies organized the meeting.
Khulna DC and District Magistrate Md Helal Hossain presided over the meeting while Mayor of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Talukder Abdul Khaleque addressed it as special guest. Khulna Divisional Commissioner Lokman Hossain Mia, KMP Commissioner Khondokar Lutful Kabir, Police Super S M Shafiullah addressed, among others.
The state minister said the government is trying to involve all the social powers in the awareness campaign aimed at waging a vibrant social movement against the abuse of narcotics.
“Anti-narcotic committees in schools, colleges and madrasas up to the degree level have been entrusted with conducting the campaign across the country. It will help reduce the drug abuse and addiction among students,” he added.
“Only drives against narcotic cannot stop the social menace until and unless a social movement is raised against it, so the drives and awareness campaigns will continue in the days to come,” he added. The KCC Mayor Khaleque stressed the need for uprooting all sources of bringing illegal drugs inside the country to protect young generation from its dangerous consequences.
The mayor also asked the law enforcement agencies to free Khulna city from drug trading, selling and use.
