Poll campaign gains tempo in Sylhet

Candidates of all the six constituencies of Sylhet district fully geared up their campaigns round the clock every day with the hope of getting maximum support from the people ignoring cold and foggy weather.
Besides, all the candidates of several political parties including the ruling Awami League and their supporters are distributing leaflets among the voters with their promises of development in their respective constituency.
Different Political parties and independent candidates, professional bodies and people from all walks of life are going ahead with separate campaigninground the clock for their candidates.
Leaders of Awami League and its associate bodies, Jatiya Party, Trinomul BNP, Bangladesh Nationalist Movement (BNP) Islami Oikko Zote, Bangladesh Congress party and independent candidates are also campaigning in their respective constituencies for contesting in the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) election slated on January 7 in 2024.
Visiting different areas of the Six constituencies of the district for the last two days saw that all constituencies of the district got a new look with posters and banners of different candidates.
A festive mood has already generated among the voters as all the candidates along with their supporters have started conducting their election campaign including holding election meetings and bringing out election processions in all the five constituencies peacefully.
Many voters said main competition is likely to be taken place between the candidates of Bangladesh Awami League and other party candidates including independent candidates in all the constituencies.
District Election Officer Md Jillur Rahman said, a total of 34 candidates are on the election race for all the Six constituencies in the district for the upcoming national election scheduled to be held on January 7.
In Sylhet-1 (Sadar- City corporation) constituency, there are five candidates. But, the issue of main competition between AL nominated candidate Former minister D. A K Abdul Momen is being discussed.
In Sylhet -2 (Bishwanath -Osmaninagar) constituency six candidates are contesting for the seat.But, the main competition is likely to be held between the AL nominated candidate former MP, Sylhet District AL President Shofiqur Rahman Chawdhury and former MP Mukabbir khan and Ahia Chawdhury.
