Probe report submission deferred for 106th time

Court Correspondent :
A Dhaka court yesterday extended till January 23 the deadline for submission of the probe report in the case filed over the murder of journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi in February of 2012.

This is the 106th extension of the submission deadline.

Metropolitan Magistrate Md Shafiuddin of Dhaka CMM Court passed the order as RAB Additional Superintendent of Police Khondoker Md Shafiqul Alam, also the Investigation Officer of the case, could not submit the report on Tuesday.

On November 16 of this year, the same court asked RAB to submit the probe report by December 19 (Tuesday).

Earlier, two separate courts expressed dissatisfaction over the submission of the probe and the investigators’ failure to unearth the motive behind the murders and arrest the real culprits.

Sagar, News Editor at private TV channel Maasranga, and his wife Runi, Senior Reporter of ATN Bangla, were killed in the early hours of February 11 of 2012, in their rented flat in the capital’s West Razabazar area.

The couple’s only son Mahir Sarowar Megh, then 5 years old, was home at the time.

Nousher Ali Roman, Runi’s brother, filed the case with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station in the city the following day.
