Police have arrested a councillor for Ward No. 28 of Gazipur City Corporation Hasan Ajmal Bhuiyan and six others for their alleged involvement in carrying out sabotage at the railway line in Gazipur.
The arrestees were identified as Hasan Ajmal Bhuiya, No. 28 ward councillor of Gazipur City Corporation, Sohel Rana, Jannatul Islam, Mehedi Hasan, Julkar Naim Ashrafi, Shahanur Alam, and Saidul Islam.
Among the arrested, Jannatul Islam and Mehedi Hasan admitted during the interrogation that eight people led by Masum, organizing secretary of Gazipur metropolitan Chhatra Dal and Kazi Azimuddin College Chhatra Dal Convener Toha were directly involved in this incident.
The main planner and financier of the incident is Hasan Ajmal Bhuiyan, councillor of Ward No. 28 of Gazipur City Corporation.
Earlier, a total of seven compartments including the locomotive of Intercity Mohanganj Express train derailed in Bonkhoria area under Prohladpur union of Sreepur in Gazipur around 4:30 am on early Wednesday.
One passenger named Aslam Hossain, 35, from Mymensingh’s Gafargaon was killed while several others were injured in this connection.
A three-member investigation committee has been formed and a case filed over the derailment.
