Record Tk5.35cr found in Kishoreganj Pagla Mosque

The eight donation boxes of the legendary 250-year old Pagla mosque, situated at the Narsundar riverbank in Kishoreganj district, have received record donations amounting to over Tk 5.35 crore.

Foreign currencies and 500 grams gold jewellery were also found in the charity boxes.

The charity boxes were opened the morning after 111 days to presence of Deputy Commissioner (DC) in Kishoreganj, Md.Abul kalam Azad, also the president of Mosque Managing Committee, Police Super (SP) Mohammad Rasel Sheikh PMM (Bar), ADM Kazi Mohua, ADC (Revenue) Farhad Chowdhury and Mayor Pervez Miah. The ancient mosque situated by the bank of Narasunda River in the Gaital neighbourhood of Kishoreganj’s town has been standing for over 255 years.

Earlier on 19 August over Tk 5.78 crore was found after opening the charity boxes.

The Pagla Mosque is situated on four acres of land at the west end of the Kishoreganj district. Legendary tales are associated with the founding of this mosque.

DC in Kishoreganj, Abul Kalam Azad told The New Nation that, the mosque received tk. 5.35 crore along wirh gold jewellery and foreign currency .

The Initiatives have been taken to build the mosque into a beautiful Islamic Complex of International standards.It will start working soon.The initial cost of its constitution has been estimated at tk.115 Crore and 30,000 worshipers can pray together there, DC, Abul Kalam Azad added.

Many devotees are drawn to the mosque from across the country, inspired by those tales and their personal beliefs. Their donations are deposited into those eight boxes.

Usually, the boxes are opened every three months in the presence of administrative officers and mosque administration committee members, who count and deposit the money into a bank.

Other offerings, such as poultry and domestic animals, are auctioned once a week.

Mahmud Parvez, General Secretary of Pagla Mosque Management Committee and Kishoreganj Mayor Pervez. Miah said, “The money received from devotees have been kept at the Rupali Bank’s Kishoreganj corporate branch, while gold jewellery has been kept in a safe vault along with the previous donations of jewellery.
