Slain MP daughter demands justice

Kolkata Police have detained three individuals in connection with the disappearance and suspected murder of Jhenaidah-4 MP, Anwarul Azim Anar.

The Awami League lawmaker went missing in India on May 13th after traveling for medical treatment.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, during a press conference on May 22nd, confirmed the arrests and ongoing investigation.

He stated, “The location of the body remains unclear. However, authorities are closely monitoring the situation.”

Mumtarin Ferdous Dorin, MP Azim’s daughter, expressed her grief and demanded a thorough investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice. “I want them hanged,” she stated.

“This has left me orphaned, and I haven’t even completed my studies.”

Dorin revealed details of her last conversation with her father, a video call where he promised to speak upon returning from India. While hesitant to name suspects, she expressed her desire to identify them and understand the motive behind the crime.

Harun-or-Rashid, Chief of Detective Branch (DB) police, confirmed Bangladeshi criminals’ involvement in MP Azim’s death. He emphasized the ongoing investigation to uncover the motive.

“We have detained individuals in Bangladesh linked to the MP’s case.

Their identities are withheld for investigative purposes. Others involved will also face legal consequences,” he declared.

The DB is collaborating closely with Indian authorities on the case.

Anwarul Azim Anar, resident of Nischintapur village in Jhenaidah’s Kaliganj upazila, traveled to West Bengal, India, for medical reasons on May 13th . He vanished the following day after visiting a doctor.
