The common students of Jahangirnagar university fear clashes over constituting hall committees with the signature of university unit general secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra League Habibur Rahman Liton, who was declared persona non grata by his followers a week earlier.
JU BCL President Aktaruzzaman Shohel and General Secretary Liton declared Sheikh Russel Hall and Sheikh Hasina Hall units committee at around 7:00pm on Wednesday.
After the declaration of committees, this correspondent talked to several students. They expressed their concern that the university’s atmosphere is totally overwhelming now. Any unwanted situation like clashes between the factions of university unit BCL can be a matter of time being.
A masters’ student of the university said on the condition of anonymity, “The overall situation of the university for the last week seems very unstable. After the declaration of committees it grips to turmoil.”
Earlier on January 23, the agitated followers of the JU unit secretary Habibur Rahman Liton declared him persona non grata on the university campus amid a bunch of allegations including land grabbing and extortion using the leaders and activists.
Following the tensions, a four-member inquiry committee was formed by the central unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) on the incident of chaos in its JU unit on January 27.
