A delegation from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Michigan State University and Feed the Future Global Biotech Potato Partnership project delegation member visit Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) on Sunday
BARI scientists and officers welcomed the USAID member’s delegation at the time of their arrival at the institute. BARI Director General Dr. Debasish Sarker and Director (Research) Dr. Md. Abdullah Yousuf Akhond discussed on various issues related to research progress on ‘Global Biotech Potato Partnership 3-R Gene Enriched Late Blight Disease Resistant Potato’ and ‘Innovation of Disease Resistant Potatoes’ at DG’s conference room. USAID’s International Agriculture Research Advisor Dr. Tracy K. Powell; Project Management Specialist and Manager Easy Office, USAID – Mohammad Sayed Shibly; Feed the Future Global Biotech Potato Partnership Project Communication and Advocacy Global Resource Lead Jan Fierro; Feed the Future Global Biotech Potato Partnership Project Communication and Advocacy Global Resource Lead. Dr. Philip Wharton; Chief Scientific Officer (Biotechnology Division) Dr. Mahmuda Khatun; SSO (Biotechnology Division) Mohammad Kamruln Hassan and Scientific Officer (Biotechnology Division) Shyam Chandra Halder were present on the occasion.
The Feed the Future, BARI and Farming Future Bangladesh projects are being implemented in Bangladesh under the supervision of Michigan State University with support provided by the US Agency for International Development (USAID). Through this project, late blight resistant potato varieties containing 3-R gene will be developed and marketed to farmers in Bangladesh, Indonesia, Kenya and Nigeria.
