Dr. Md. Atikus Samad, Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate, Bagerhat, in a judgment delivered on Thursday noon convicted 8 members of a banned militant organization named JMB and sentenced them to suffer imprisonment for different terms and 6 persons them were directed to pay a fine of Tk.10 thousand each on the charge of attempt to commit sabotage activities and kill some ones. All the convicted persons were present at the time of delivery of the judgment.
The convicted persons are Akash Molla, son of Md. Bedar Molla of village Kakarbil under Kachua Upazila in Bagerhat district, Md. Kabirul Islam, son of one Kabirul Islam, son of one Lokman Faraji of village Raghunatpur under Najirpur Upazila in Pirojpur district, Mizanur Rahman, son of one Alam Hawladar alias of village Uttar Sonakhali under Mathbaria Upazila in the same district, Md. Zahirul Islam, son of one Ashraful Faraji o village, Md. Maksudur Rahman, son of one Zumman Ali of village Garerkanda under Sadar Upazila in Satkhira district, Md. Morshdul Alam, son of one Gias Uddin of village Itagacha under Sathkhira Sadar Upazila, Md. Saiful Islam, son of one Tarikul Islam under Sathkhira Sadar Upazila and Tarikul Islam, son of one Sohrab Hossain of village Nataikhali uneer Bagerhat Sadar Upazila.
Out of them 3 persons (named Akash Molla, Md.Kabirul and Mizanur Raman were awarded to suffer imprisonment for long 8 years while Zahirul Islam, Maksudur Rahman and Morshed Alam were awarded to suffer imprisonment for 5 years and Md. Saiful Islam and Tarikul Islam were awarded to suffer imprisonment for 2 years by the court. On the other hand, all the convicted persons excepting Md. Saiful Islam and Tarikul Islam were convicted to pay a fine of Tk.10 thousand each by the court.
Adv. Shiduzzaman, Lawyer, on behalf Government told, the convicted JMB members assembled at a place in order to commit sabotage activities against the Government and kill some ones. The learned judge after examining the evidences and witnesses found the accused persons are guilty and awarded them the aforesaid punishment.
