AL leader found dead in soybean field

The police recovered the dead body of an Awami League leader from a soybean field in Hijla upazila under Barishal district on Saturday noon. The police initially confirmed that it was a murder as there were sharp weapon injuries on the victim’s body.
Deceased Jamal Majhi is a follower of local Independent Member of Parliament (MP) Pankaj Nath of Barishal-4 Constituency. The local MP said that the deceased Jamal was the acting president of ward number 7 of Dhulkhola Union of Upazila Awami League.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Hijla Police Station Jubair Ahmed said the body was brought to police station after recovery at around 1:00 pm on Saturday (March 16). The dead body sent to Barishal SBMCH morgue for autopsy.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Hijla police station, furthersaid that the dead body was found abandoned and he was hacked to death. Till this report no case was lodged, but police already started investigation.
Akhi Begum, the wife of the deceased, said her husband Jamal Majhi was called over mobile phone at around 2 amearly Saturday as he did not returned home after long time, then we called him over mobile photo and but he said that he was fine and safe.
After that when he did not return home at night, around 9 am Saturday, she came to know that her husband’s dead body was lying in the field, the wife told. Akhi alleged that her husband was brutally hacked to death by a terrorist group led by local Union Parishad (UP) Chairman Jamal Uddin Dhali.
Local MP Pankaj Nath alleged followers of Dr. Shammi, MP for reserved seat for females, led by Jamal Dhali, attacked the house of Jamal Mazhi,acting President of Ward No. 7 under Dhulkhola Union in the upazila on March 2.
