Banglabandha land port to remain closed for three days

Import-export activities and passenger movement through immigration at the Banglabandha land port in Panchagarh will remain suspended for three consecutive days due to the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, and Cooch Behar constituencies of West Bengal, India, on April 19.
All import-export activities, including immigration at the port, have been suspended since Wednesday morning.

Panchagarh Police Superintendent SM Sirajul Huda confirmed the matter to the media.

He said that the Jalpaiguri District Magistrate of India, Shama Parvin, has declared that import-export and passenger movement through immigration at the Banglabandha land port in Panchagarh will be suspended for three consecutive days from Wednesday to Friday (April 17 to 19) due to the Lok Sabha elections in India.

A document in this regard was received by us on Tuesday night. We hope that this immigration activity will resume to normal on April 20.

Abul Kalam Azad, manager of Banglabandha Landport Limited, confirmed the receipt of the document of closure of the Banglabandha border area and told the media, “This is not an instruction from Bangladesh.

Since this directive has been given by the Government of India, they will not allow any trucks to come and go during this time for carrying out import-export activities.”

Meanwhile, it has been reported from the Banglabandha land port that passengers with passports from various districts of the country, including Dhaka and Kushtia, have returned home due to such a drastic decision of the Indian government.
