Staff Reporter :
The main opposition party in Bangladesh, BNP, expressed grave concerns on Wednesday, stating that the nation is currently caught in the crossfire of border killings by Myanmar and India, describing the situation as alarming.

These remarks were made during a press conference held by the BNP’s National Standing Committee, the party’s apex policy-making body, at its chairperson’s office in Gulshan, Dhaka. Present at the conference were BNP standing committee members Abdul Moyeen Khan, Nazrul Islam Khan, and Selima Rahman, among others.

The BNP criticized the ruling Awami League government for maintaining power with the alleged support of India, China, and Russia, accusing it of granting these nations various illegal economic and geopolitical concessions at the expense of Bangladesh’s national interests.

“Bangladesh finds itself in a perilous position, with BGB members and civilians being shot at the Indian border, and recent incidents of firing and mortar attacks from Myanmar, resulting in fatalities and injuries. Moreover, troops from Myanmar’s Rakhine state are reportedly seeking refuge within our borders, essentially placing Bangladesh in the midst of a crossfire,” stated Goyeshwar Chandra Roy, a BNP Standing Committee Member, during the press event.

Roy urged the public to reflect on the potential consequences and underlying reasons for the ongoing tensions along Bangladesh’s borders. He speculated on whether the unrest at the Myanmar border is a diversion tactic by the government to shift attention from its failures and controversies.

Questioning the government’s possible clandestine dealings with those instigating these border tensions, Roy expressed hope that the government would address and effectively manage the border issues, provided it has no ties to the increasing unrest.
