Feni Correspondent :

There has been extensive development in the construction of bridges and culverts in Feni district in the past few years, but most of them have no visible use. Crores of taka is being spent away in building some bridges without connecting roads yet. As a result, these developments do not bring any benefit to the people. The hope of the residents of the two villages adjacent to the bridge over Kalidas Pahalia River remains unfulfilled due to difficulty in getting the desired approach road.
The bridge was constructed at a cost of about 9 crore taka on Kalidas Pahalia River in Farhad Nagar of Feni Sadar Upazila and Nawabpur Union of Sonagazi Upazila without a connecting road. As a result, a bridge was constructed on the river between the two villages but it became unusable due to the lack of a suitable connecting road.
It is known from related sources and local residents that the construction work of connecting bridge between Farhad Nagar of Feni Sadar Upazila and Nawabpur Union of Sonagazi on Kalidas Pahalia river has started from October 12, 2020 with the financing of Local Government Engineering Directorate (LGED) at the cost of 8 crore 94 lakh Taka 24 thousand 6033. A construction company named Kare Hawk Traders got the work order. Although the work of the bridge was supposed to be completed on June 6, 2023, it was completed in the current year, informed local residents said.
Saidullah Mahfuz, a college student said, if the bridge is opened properly, there will be a union between the residents of the two villages. In addition, the transportation facility will be very useful for the students in their studies.
The local residents said that it is necessary to construct the connecting road from the eastern part of the bridge to the Kashem driver house of Dakshin Farhad Nagar village of Feni Sadar Upazila with the paved road.
Otherwise the bridge will not be of much use to the public.
Executive Engineer of LGED Feni Mahmoud Al Farooq said, necessary measures will be taken to make the bridge suitable so that the public can use it spontaneously.
