Chuadanga celebrates Nazrul’s birth anniversary

A two-day long birth anniversary celebration of rebel poet Kazi Nazrul Islam was begun in the district on Saturday. In his life time the national poet of Bangladesh Kazi Nazrul Islam spent a few months at Karpashdanga in Damurhuda upazila of the district with his family.
Ali Asgar Tagor, MP, and the Deputy Commissioner of Chuadanga Dr Kissinger Chakma placed floral wreaths at the portrait of national poet this morniing, who was born on May 24 in 1899 at Charulia village in Paschim Bardhaman district in West Bengal. He was brought to Bangladesh after independence, Nazrul Islam died in 1976 in Bangladesh.
Police Super RM Foyjur Rahman, Additional Police Super Md Riazul Islam, Additional Deputy Commissioner Nazmul Hamid Reza, Damurhuda Upazila Parishad Chairman Ali Munsur Babu, Damurhuda Upazila Nirbahi Officer Roksana Mita and Assistant Professor of Chuadanga Govt College Dr Munsi Abu Saif were present among others.
A rally was organised at 10 am at Karpashdanga, students of Karpashdanga took part the rally marking poet’s birth anniversary, a discussion was also held in the premises of Karpashdanga High School later.
A cultural function will be staged at district Shilpakala academy this afternoon. A discussion on poet’s life and works will be organised in Karpashdanga High School Field tomorrow afternoon.
