Sr. Staff Reporter, Kishoreganj :

Recently, a video of land office assistant Abdul Qadir Mia taking bribe from service takers while sitting in his office went viral on social media. In the video, it is seen that he is sitting in his office and counting 5 thousand taka from Bhola Mia, a person who came to take public service. All rejections are not equal, says Bhola Mia. The incident happened in Maizkhapan Union Land Office of Kishoreganj Sadar. The issue is now at everyone’s mouth.
However, Deputy Commissioner (DC), Kishoreganj assured strict disciplinary action against the accused. The allegation of bribery in this office is long-standing. Many complain that no work is done without paying extra money beyond the government fee. Because of that, the service users are constantly being harassed.
It is known that in 1997, Abdul Qadir left the rural electricity job and joined the office assistant of the land office. Since then he has become the owner of abundant wealth. Locals said that Qadir has houses in Dhaka too. The village house is also well furnished. When asked about the complaint, office assistant Abdul Qadir refused to say anything. Maizkhapan Union Land Officer Mir Abul Hatim claimed that the allegations leveled against him were false.
In this regard, DC Md. Abul Kalam Azad told The New Nation that, after the incident came into notice, an explanation was sought from the concerned employee. Strict disciplinary action will be taken if bribery is proved. No discount will be given in this case, DC added.
