The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Monday asked the lower court to complete the trial of expelled Awami League leader Rupon Bhuiyan in two months in a case of recovering over five kilograms of gold from his house at Sutrapur area in the capital.

The Special Court-6 of Dhaka is scheduled to record the depositions of the 14th prosecution witness in the case filed with the Sutrapur Police Station in January of 2020, Assistant Attorney General Saiful Alam told the media.

He disclosed that 21 people have been made witnesses in the case.

A five-judge bench of the Appellate Division, headed by the Chief Justice, upheld its earlier order that stayed a High Court order granting bail to Rupon, an alleged casino kingpin.

On January 13 of 2020, law enforcers arrested the then Gandaria Thana unit Awami League Vice-President Eanmul Haque and his younger brother and then Joint General Secretary of the unit Rupon during an anti-casino drive in the sports and recreational clubs in Dhaka.
