Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Additional Commissioner and DB Chief, Mohammad Harun-Or-Rashid, has called upon the media to collaborate with law enforcement authorities by sharing intelligence regarding producers of adulterated food, including counterfeit saline.

Addressing journalists at his office located on Mintu Road in Dhaka on Wednesday noon, DB Chief emphasized the importance of tackling the issue of adulterated products.

He stressed that the production and distribution of such items constitute criminal offenses, and it is imperative for concerned organizations such as the Consumer Rights Protection Directorate and the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) to fulfill their responsibilities in this regard.

Citizens have the right to be assured of the legitimacy of products, especially those vital for health, such as baby food and saline solutions, Chief Harun-Or-Rashid highlighted.

He underscored the role of collective vigilance in combating the menace of adulteration, urging residents of areas where such illicit activities are suspected to come forward with information to aid law enforcement efforts.

“The cooperation of the public is crucial. If residents provide us with information about the production of fake beverages, juices, and the illicit mixing of salt and sugar to produce counterfeit saline, we will take swift legal action against the perpetrators,” he affirmed.

The appeal from the DB Chief comes in the wake of recent successful operations by the Detective Branch (DB), which led to the apprehension of several criminal syndicates involved in the manufacturing and distribution of fake saline.

These raids, conducted in various parts of Dhaka, demonstrate the authorities’ commitment to eradicating the production and sale of adulterated goods, safeguarding public health and safety.
