Ferry services on the Daulatdia-Paturia route of Manikganj and Rajbari districts remained suspended for five hours due to poor visibility caused by dense fog on Sunday.
Two ferries – Barkat and Kaberi – remained stranded in the middle of the Padma River due to thick fog, reports media.
The ferry service was suspended at 3:40am. The service was restored at 8:40am after the fog cleared, according to the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) Aricha office.
Hundreds of vehicles including buses were stuck on both sides. Passengers and drivers of these vehicles suffered in the cold weather.
BIWTC Daulatdia Ghat Branch Manager (Trade) Md Salahuddin said that when the intensity of the fog increased, it was decided to suspend the ferry service from 3:40am to avoid accidents.
Vehicles are being crossed by 16 small and big ferries on this route, said the official.
