Readers’ Voice: Doctors should not be greedy persons

block

I would like to draw the attention of doctors to the fact that Bangladesh is a country with a financially weak population.

More than 15 per cent people, i.e., over 24 million are extremely poor and more than 70 per cent are poor.

Modern medical services are a dream to them.

When anyone becomes sick, the whole family feels nervous because of the atrocious medical bill involved.

But commonly the behavior of doctors, asking for tests and prescribing costly medication, gives the impression that they do not bother about the financial capacity of patients.

Doctors are highly educated persons in respect to the status of our society.

They should be more cautious when prescribing different tests.

They should avoid advising unnecessary tests and consider the price, quality and effectiveness of medicine before prescribing.

In fact, there are medicines available in different brand names of different pharmaceutical companies and the price varies abnormally.

There is less effective medicine that can be avoided to cure disease.

Doctors should avoid prescribing costly medicines, without compromising the quality, when low cost quality medicines are available in the markets. People do not consider doctors greedy persons like most businessmen.

Only the conscious advice and prescription of a doctor can save the money of many people who visit their chambers and prescription of a doctor can save money for many who visit their chambers.
