DU prof Zia Rahman laid to rest at Buddhijibi Graveyard

Dhaka University (DU)’s Criminology Department Professor and Social Science Faculty Dean Zia Rahaman was laid to eternal rest at Shahid Buddhijibi Graveyard in Dhaka on Saturday after praying second Namaz-e-Janaza.

Earlier, the first Namaz-e-Janaza of Prof. Zia Rahman was held at the Central Mosque of Dhaka University after the Zuhur prayer where DU Vice-chancellor Prof ASM Maksud Kamal addressed.

The DU prof died at the Capital’s Lab Aid Hospital around 4.15 am on Saturday cause of heart disease at the age of 59.

“He died in the early hours of Saturday (March 23) due to brain haemorrhage while undergoing treatment at the capital’s LabAid Hospital,” DU Proctor Prof. Maksudur Rahman confirmed.

This pro-Awami League teacher leader has served in DU teachers association and various administrative positions in his career of almost three decades.

In January 2022, he was finally elected as the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences.
From 2013 to 2020, he led the university’s Department of Criminology as its founding Chairman.

In a condolence message, the DU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Dr ASM Maksud Kamal expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Prof Zia Rahman.

He prayed for eternal peace of his departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.
