DU Correspondent :
The Dhaka University (DU) students of Law department staged a protest rally against the cruel attack of the Bangladesh Chhatra League(BCL) on the students of the same department that hurt at least five students.

The agitating students formed the protest in front of the Qazi Motahar Hossain building of the university on Thursday and later and submitted a memorandum also to the DU proctor seeking judgement in this attack.

Different student organisations including JatiyatabadiChhatra Dal (JCD), Bangladesh ChhatraOdhikar Parishad and Bangladesh Chhatra Federation also protested the “Chhatra League attack” calling the attack as heinous. The general students also erupted their voice against this attack.

The students appeared at the human chain wearing black bands on their wrists and heads then observed one minute silence as a token of protest.

Expressing solidarity, Dr. Md Nazrul Islam(Asif Nazrul), professor of DU Law department, joined the human chain and marked the attack as ‘an attempt to murder’ and said, the way, BCL activists attacked the students, is a criminal offence according to the law of Bangladesh. Prof Asif Nazrul said, “Our students who were attacked, attacked using ‘Shibir’tags. This politics of tagging is not new in DU.

If they (BCL) do any wrongdoing, they use Shibir tag to cover up their fault.”

“The victim students are not affiliated with Shibir or any kind of politics as I know. They were not beaten for doing Shibir rather they were beaten for arranging Islamic program andto practice religion.

Did We make Bangladesh independent for this!” the Professor added.

Appealing to BCL top leaders to expel the culprit attackers immediately, Asif Nazrul said,”All the leaders of the BCL today are law students.

I appeal to you as your teacher that do you think that they(attackers) have the right to come and make innocent boys bloody when they are doing Islami program? Don’t you feel anxiety after seeing bloody faces of your juniors?
Sabekunnahar, a student of 50th batch of law department, readout the memorandum demanding to lodge a criminal offence charge against the culprits.

Rafid Hossen Safwan, one of the victims, described the incident of attacks and said “We do not have any involvement with any political organization.

We arranged the program from our religious emotion.

I want justice of this attack.”
Saying that the attack was totally pre-planned, the victim said, “BCL leader of Shahbag thana Unit, Tawhidul Islam Sujon, and his followers attacked us when we came out of the gate of the Bangabandhu tower following the instruction ofShirajul Haque- president of Bangabandhu Tower employee’ association”
