The government has decided to procure edible oil, lentil, sugar, and wheat worth Tk 507 crore from both local and international markets.
Of this amount, Tk 153.97 crore will be allocated for the purchase of wheat, Tk 77.98 crore for soybean oil, Tk 107.60 crore for sugar, and Tk 167.38 crore for red lentils.
The approval for procuring these essential commodities was granted during a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) held on Thursday (March 14), chaired by Finance Minister Abul Hasan Mahmud Ali.
Other significant proposals presented at the CCGP meeting included the import of 3 lakh metric tonnes of wheat from Russia, with each tonne costing US$288.
Additionally, 40,000 metric tonnes of DAP fertilizer will be imported from Saudi Arabia, with each tonne costing US$581, and fertilizer imports from Russia will amount to US$289.75 per metric tonne.
