Hearing deferred in 11 cases against Khaleda Zia

A Dhaka court yesterday fixed July 29 for the hearing on charge framing in 11 cases, including a sedition case, filed against BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.

Earlier, Monday was fixed for the appearance of the BNP Chief in the court but Dhaka’s Metropolitan Sessions Judge Ash Shams Jaglul Hossain reset the date as Khaleda Zia could not appear in the court because of her “poor health”.

Of the 11 cases, 10 were filed in the first three months of 2015 over arson attacks, while the other one was filed with a Dhaka court on the charge of making seditious comments on freedom fighters and martyrs of the Liberation War.

Besides, Begum Khaleda Zia, other notable accused people in the vandalism cases include Amanullah Aman, Habib-Un-Nabi Khan Sohel and Sultan Salauddin Tuku.

Other three graft cases filled against Khaleda Zia are- Gatco, Niko and Boropukuria coalmine cases.

The former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia has been suffering from various ailments, including liver cirrhosis, arthritis, diabetes, kidney, lung heart and eye problems.

The BNP leader has been staying at her Gulshan residence in the capital through an executive order of the government.
