‘Kacchi Bhai’ owner placed on 2-day remand

Sohel Siraj, the owner of Kacchi Bhai Restaurant, has been arrested in connection with the recent fire incident at his establishment located on Bailey Road in the city.

Sohel Siraj, who recently returned from Malaysia, was intercepted by Immigration Police upon his arrival at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.

Subsequently, he was handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further proceedings.

CID Police Superintendent Azad Rahman Sohel confirmed the arrest to the media, shedding light on the ongoing investigation into the fire incident.

The blaze led to a significant loss of life and property, prompting swift action from law enforcement agencies.

A case has been registered regarding the fire tragedy, with allegations of negligence and attempted murder.

Sohel Siraj’s arrest marks the seventh individual detained in connection with the case.

In a development today, a Dhaka court has ordered a two-day police remand for Sohel Siraj in connection with the case related to the deadly fire at the Green Cozy Cottage shopping mall on Bailey Road.

This fire, which occurred on February 29, resulted in the tragic loss of 46 lives.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Tahmina Haque issued the remand order following a plea from the investigation officer, Masud Parvez, an inspector of the CID, who sought a five-day remand for further interrogation.

The case, initially filed by Mohammad Shahidul Islam, sub-inspector of Ramna Model Police Station, implicates Amin Mohammad Group and three others, alleging gross negligence leading to loss of life and injuries.

The developments in the investigation underscore the gravity of the situation and the determination of authorities to ensure accountability for the tragic incident that shook the city.
