Staff Reporter :
In a press conference held at the Awami League’s Bangabandhu Avenue central office on Friday, AL General Secretary Obaidul Quader addressed the issue of government change, emphasising that election is the only legitimate avenue for such a transition.

Quader made it unequivocally clear that altering the government without the democratic process of elections is not a viable option.

He stated, “If you want to change the government, another election will have to be held. There is no scope to change the government without polls.”

Drawing attention to the current political landscape, Quader highlighted the perceived lack of effectiveness within the opposition, particularly targeting the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).

He criticised BNP leaders for what he described as an absence of proactive engagement with their party members and the public, noting that disillusionment among their ranks is palpable.

According to Quader, the BNP’s ability to mobilize its base for any significant movement has waned, asserting, “There is no such situation in the country that BNP workers will join its movement responding to the call of BNP leaders. In fact, BNP has now lost its ability to wage a movement.”

The AL General Secretary underscored the prevailing trust and confidence the people of Bangladesh have in the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Quader expressed admiration for Hasina’s integrity and leadership qualities, stating, “People of this country have accepted her (Sheikh Hasina) honesty and leadership.

After 1975, no honest, hardworking, and efficient leader was born in the country like her. So, the people of Bangladesh are with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.”

In his address, Quader urged responsible individuals to exercise restraint in their public statements, emphasising the importance of avoiding remarks that may cause embarrassment to the government. He stressed, “All of us responsible should refrain from making statements that are embarrassing for the government.”

The press conference was attended by prominent AL figures including organizing secretaries BM Mozammel Haque and Afzal Hossain, office secretary Biplab Barua, publicity and publication affairs secretary Dr. Abdus Sobhan Golap, and deputy office secretary Sayem Khan.
