Stocks end flat with higher turnover

Stock at the premier bourse on Tuesday ended almost flat, with the turnover crossing Tk 11 billion-mark after three months, as buoyant investors kept their buying spree on lucrative shares.

The investors’ enthusiasm sustained, as the institutional investors were putting fresh stakes on large-cap stocks amid high hopes, market insiders said.

Favourable earnings disclosure for the recently ended quarter also prompted investors to put fresh funds on selective stocks.

The DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went down 1.73 points to settle at 5,725.

Before Tuesday, the DSEX was up for four straight sessions. Within four trading days, it added 157 points or 2.82 per cent to the index.

The majority of the stocks saw a price decline today, as out of the 396 issues traded, 131 closed higher, 222 ended lower and 41 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

Best Holdings Limited was the most-traded stock with shares worth Tk 558 million changing hands, followed by Asiatic Lab, Golden Son Ltd, Taufika Foods and Lovello Ice-cream, and Oimex Electrode Limited.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), however, ended higher with its All Share Price Index (CASPI) rising 34.5 points to settle at 16,396 and the Selective Categories Index (CSCX) gaining 22 points to 9872.

The port city bourse traded 21.81 million shares and mutual fund units with a turnover volume of Tk 1.15 billion.
