With the initiative of journalist Hasanuzzaman Saki and the
support of Akash and Shahnewaz from behind, the two-day long ‘Suchitra Sen International Film Festival’ ended in New York, USA on April 21.
The Dhaka-10 Constituency’s Member of the Parliament and popular hero Ferdous Ahmed and popular heroine of two Bengals Rituparna Sengupta joined the festival as honored guests.
Moushumi, the popular actress of Bangladesh, was invited as an honored guest at a festival.
The last time the three friends – Moushumi, Ferdous and Rituparna met was during the shooting of the movie titled ‘Ekti Cinemar Golpo’ directed by noted actor, producer and director Alamgir in 2017. These three friends never met again after that. The three of them met on the last day of Suchitra Sen festival.
On the last day of the festival, Rituparna (lifetime honor), and Ferdous were given ‘Guest of Honour’. In the event, more than 30 movies of Bengali were sscreened in three cinema halls – Satyajit Ray Hall, Zahir Raihan Hall and Tareque Masud Hall- in a row.
While talking actor Ferdous Ahmed told this correspondent, “For the first time they are 100 per cent successful I would say. Many Bengali-speaking viewers came to watch the movie in this two-day festival. Many have waited outside without getting a chance to watch the movie. Everyone’s participation was really sincere. It is a good sign. The way the organisers have succeeded in the first festival, it seems that we can do this festival on a bigger scale in the future. Artistes living in America mainly came to the event. Each of them has been duly respected. It is a very big issue that has been given equal attention to everyone.”
“A new horizon of Bengali language cinema started with this festival. I am very busy at the moment. Even then, I participated in this festival because of my immense love for Bengali cinema. Of course, it was more interesting that I participated in this festival. Of course, what was more enjoyable was that I went there and met my favourite person, my favourite heroine, my dear friend-colleague Moushumi. I can’t tell you how much I liked meeting her after a long time.”
On the other hand, popular Bangladeshi film actress and model Moushumi shared her feelings by this way, “Ferdous came home before going to the festival. I cooked and fed him with my own hands. We had a wonderful time. Later, we joined the festival. Went there and met Rituparna. It was a pleasure to meet our three friends. We thoroughly enjoyed the event.”
Ferdous said that he will return to the country tomorrow. Two of Ferdous starring movies titled ‘1971 Shei Shob Din’ and ‘Mike’ were screened at the festival.
