Tk 10 lakh fined to 137 companies for unfair pricing

The Department of Agricultural Marketing has fixed the prices of 29 essential commodities on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan and various organisations are working in unison to ensure that the products are sold at fixed prices.

As part of this, the National Consumer Rights Protection Department conducted market surveillance activities on Monday in Dhaka metropolis and at all divisional and district levels of the country.

Six teams of the department conducted market surveillance in Dhaka metropolis.

In addition, the programme was conducted simultaneously in a total of 51 districts of the country, including other divisional cities.

In continuation of this, 57 teams across the country fined a total of 137 establishments a total of 10 lakh, 36 thousand taka through surveillance.

These establishments were not following the governments fixed price.

Meanwhile, the DMP and other government wings tend to monitor the market situation in order to control the essential commodities (rice, oil, lentils, etc.) during Ramadan.

A large number of low-income groups have been facing immense pain as essential commodities surged.
