The Bangladesh Mahila Parishad has released alarming statistics revealing a disturbing trend of violence against women and girls in April.
According to their report, a total of 193 women and girls were subjected to torture, while 46, including 35 children, fell victim to rape across the country during the month.
The Mahila Parishad’s data indicates that among the rape victims, 15 were gang-raped, and tragically, three lost their lives as a result. Shockingly, one girl took her own life following a rape ordeal. Additionally, four women and girls narrowly escaped attempted rape.
The Central Legal Aid sub-council of Mahila Parishad compiled the data based on reports published in 16 national dailies, shedding light on the widespread abuse faced by women and girls in Bangladesh.
Aside from sexual violence, the report highlights other forms of brutality inflicted on women. Nine individuals faced sexual assault and harassment, while 33, including seven children, lost their lives due to various reasons.
The report also underscores the prevalence of trafficking, with two cases involving women and children.
Furthermore, instances of dowry-related torture resulted in the death of one victim, while 16 others endured physical abuse.
Family violence remains a concerning issue, with four reported cases of physical abuse, and tragically, one domestic worker lost her life due to violence.
Mysterious deaths of 15 women and girls have been recorded, along with 15 suicides, including six baby girls. Additionally, three baby girls were abducted, and one narrowly escaped an abduction attempt.
In the realm of cybercrime, five individuals, including three girls, fell victim to incidents of online exploitation. On a positive note, 12 incidents of child marriage were successfully prevented.
