Special Correspondent :
Around 264 Border Guard Police (BGP) members of Myanmar have taken shelter again in Bangladesh due to conflict between the Myanmar military and the armed rebel group in Myanmar’s Rakhine state.

Meanwhile, the Bangladesh government has engaged in discussions with the Myanmar side to send back the BGP members.

Against this backdrop, some 46 members of BGP took shelter again in Bangladesh on Wednesday.

“So far as I know, a total of 260 BGP members have taken shelter in Bangladesh. They entered Bangladesh, crossing the international border line, as the situation is becoming volatile again due to the internal situation, especially the situation in the border areas of Myanmar,” Major Hussain Raisul Azam, Additional Director (intelligence) of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), told The New Nation on Wednesday.

However, at least 68 more personnel and civilians have sought shelter from the Bangladesh authorities after crossing the international border on Tuesday amid the conflict between Myanmar’s military junta and the ethnic Arakan Army.

According to BGB sources, some 50 people came in a group on Tuesday evening while others rested for the past 24 hours.

The sources further said that the number of new arrivals in BGP, including civilians, has now reached 264 since March 11.
