Staff Reporter :
BNP Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas has accused the ruling Awami League (AL) of maintaining power through violence and killing, alleging that the party utilises state apparatus to eliminate taxpayers.

These remarks were made during a financial grant-giving ceremony for the families of deceased Jubo Dal leaders, Shamim Mollah from Mugdha Thana Unit, and Abdur Rashid from Adabar Thana Unit, held at the BNP’s Nayapaltan Central office in the capital on Tuesday.

Mirza Abbas conveyed the message on behalf of BNP Acting Vice-Chairman Tarique Rahman.

Abbas asserted, “Approximately 15,000 leaders and activists of BNP have fallen victim to AL’s violence, leaving behind numerous orphaned children and helpless families.”

He further accused AL of sabotaging 28 grand rallies organised by BNP, alleging a coordinated effort involving both local and international conspirators to prevent BNP’s participation in parliamentary elections.

“AL commenced the arrest of BNP leaders and activists a year and a half prior to the October 28 mass rally.

Moreover, they persistently threatened to incarcerate our senior leaders ahead of the October 28 event,” Abbas alleged.

Mirza Abbas further asserted, “The people of the country responded to the call of our leader Tarique Rahman and boycotted the January 7th pseudo-election.”

Leading up to the January 7th election, Tarique Rahman urged citizens to refrain from casting their votes for the Awami League.
