Bhangura (Pabna) Correspondent :

Medical services are disrupted due to manpower shortage in the 50-bed health complex of BhanguraUpazila, Pabna. Moreover, the required number of consultant doctors has not been appointed here in the last six years. In particular, the posts of junior consultants in the two departments of Gynecology and Anesthesia are vacant for a long time. If necessary, caesarean section of the pregnant mother is performed by an anesthesia doctor through outsourcing, but it is irregular. As a result, as the desired maternity services are disrupted, the residents are also deprived of the treatment of specialist doctors.
It is reported that this health complex was increased from 31 beds to 50 beds in 2018. Although there are necessary infrastructure and beds for this, the required number of doctors has not been appointed so far. According to the manpower structure, there should be a total of 25 medical officers including ten junior consultants.
However, only 12 Medical officers are currently working here. As a result, six years after the inauguration of 50 beds, this health complex is running with 31 beds norms . At present, the pressure of patients in outdoor and indoor areas has increased manifold, so the medical officers is struggling to provide services.
Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Halima Khanom admitted the shortage of doctors in this 50-bed health complex and said that there are 10 junior consultant positions but four positions are approved. Dr.ShirinSabnam, a junior consultant of Gynecology Department, joined a few months ago but left on deputation on the same day. Also, two medical officers are on deputation elsewhere, he said. For this reason only caesarean operations are performed twice a month on her own initiative.
