The Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) has been shut indefinitely as agitated students continue to protest, demanding justice for two students killed in a road accident four days ago.

The CUET authorities asked the male students to vacate residential halls within 5:00pm on Thursday and female students within 9am on Friday morning.

The decision was taken at the academic council’s 151st emergency meeting on Thursday.

The announcement was made public in a notice signed by CUET registrar Sheikh Mohammad Humayun Kabir.

Earlier, the deaths of two CUET students in a road accident sparked protests on campus, which led to the blocking of Chattogram-Kaptai road.
Shanto Saha and Toufiq Hossain were killed after a bus rammed their motorcycle head-on at the Syeda Selima Quader Chowdhury College Gate area on Monday (April 22).
One of them was heard requesting people take them to hospital but everyone was busy taking photos and videos of the accident site.
The demands put forth by the protesting students encompass several key points. First and foremost, they call for exemplary punishment to be meted out to the Shah Amanat Transport Authority.
Additionally, they emphasize the need for adequate compensation to be provided to the families of the victims affected by the recent events.
Furthermore, another significant demand is the widening of the Chattogram-Kaptai road, a vital infrastructure project that holds implications for both safety and efficiency in the region.
The students also announced they would stay away from all academic activities if their demands were not met.
