Students of Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University have brought out a protest march on Wednesday on the charge of sexual harassment against a teacher of the Human Resource Management Department.
The protesting general students locked the university proctor’s office, various faculties and the university bank since Wednesday morning. The agitated students also stopped the transport.
Meanwhile, in the face of student protests, the accused teacher was hastily put on indefinite leave on Wednesday afternoon.
For siding with the accused teacher, the Head of the Human Resource Management Department has been relieved of his post and given also compulsory leave.
The registrar of the university Humayun Kabir confirmed this information the media on Wednesday evening afternoon.
He said that though two investigation committees have already formed in this incident, have not submitted their report yet.
Even after taking such action against the two teachers, the general student’s agitation has been going on.
They demand that these two teachers should be expelled from the university. Talking to the university administration and general students, it is known that on the night of March 3, a female student of the human resource management department of the university complained of sexual harassment against a teacher of that department on her Facebook ID.
In this incident, the general students of the university protested in front of the administrative building on March 4. On March 5, the victim student filed a written complaint of sexual harassment against the teacher of the Human Resource Management Department to the Vice-Chancellor.
