A group of Dhaka University (DU) students organised a mass Iftar party protesting the decisions of Shahajalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) and Noakhali University of Science and Technology’s authority as the administration of these two University imposed ban on students Iftar party.
About hundred students gathered at the Teacher-Student Centre of Dhaka University on Tuesday and took part at the Iftar party as a symbolic protest.
The agitating students said that it is our right to observe the festivals of our religion. Imposing ban on our culture and on our rights is a crime. It hurts us when we see others have been observing their festivals but when we want to observe our administration impose ban.
Sadik Qayyum, a student of DU who participated at this Iftar, said, “Iftar is a inseparable part of our thousand year old Bengali Muslim culture.
We strongly condemned and protested the naked interference on Iftar mahfil by the university authorities in SUST and NSTU.”
“We, the conscientious students of DU, will give our tuition and scholarship money to organize mass iftar programs in campus to further stimulate this culture,”Sadik added.
