The Election Commission (EC) has taken a firm stance against the illegal influence of ministers and Members of Parliament (MPs) in the upcoming Upazila Parishad elections, urging them to refrain from exerting any undue pressure.

In a letter addressed to the Parliament Secretariat, the EC emphasized the importance of maintaining a fair and impartial electoral process, free from interference by ministers and MPs.

Election Commissioner Md Alamgir reaffirmed the EC’s commitment to upholding the integrity of the electoral process, stating that field officials have been instructed to resist any attempts at illegal influence. During a press briefing at the election building on Thursday, Commissioner Alamgir underscored the principle of equality among all candidates, regardless of their political affiliations or connections. He emphasized that all candidates should be treated equally under the law.

“We will bring the matter to the attention of the Speaker, and ensure that the electoral process remains free from any illegitimate influence,” stated Commissioner Alamgir. He clarified that while relatives of ministers and MPs are permitted to run as candidates, they are prohibited from exerting any unlawful influence.

The EC’s message serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining the integrity and fairness of the electoral process, ensuring that the voices of the electorate are heard without interference or bias.
