Govt urged to declare heat emergency

Saiful Haque, general secretary of the Biplabi Workers Party, has urged to issue a heat emergency immediately to tackle the worsening situation due to the rising temperatures across Bangladesh.

He also called upon to take a coordinated action.

The government cannot evade responsibility for the rising temperature situation. The families of low-income and day-labourer should be provided with cash and food items.

He delivered the speech as the chief guest at the meeting of the central committee on Friday.

The meeting was held at the central office of the organization at Segunbagicha.

In the meeting, it was decided to observe International Labour Day on May 1 through a rally.

Saiful Haque said: “The severe rise in temperature across the country is like a nightmare for the hardworking people.

In summer, their lives are in dire straits. In this situation, a large part of them are unemployed. The livelihood of working people is under serious threat. Many have no work, no food at home.”

He said that the government cannot avoid the responsibility of this situation after being in power for 15 years.

He called on the government, ministries, city corporations, and all related organizations to take coordinated action by issuing a heat emergency to deal with the situation.
