The swimming pool of Jahangirangar University (JU) has been remaining abandoned for 20 years due to the negligence of the university authorities.
The construction work of the swimming pool was completed in 1978, but after eight years it was left uncared for, as the university authorities reffused to bear its maintenance cost.
A security guard said, after evening the swimming pool area becomes a den of the drug addicts and other anti-social elements. Many times, the peaceful general students became their victims. But the Physical Education office is unable to check these uncivil events, as the height of the gate and the wall is easily passable..
When contacted, Director of the swimming pool Md. Sifatullah said, about TK two core is required for complete repairing and reforming of the swimming pool.
Mizanur Rahman, a second year student of the Geology department said, we are deprived of an excellent exercise as the swimming pool has been remaining abandoned for years. It is painful that the authority have no headache for it.
President of JU Chhatra Union Dipanjan Sidhanto Kajol said, the JU authority is responsible for abandoned swimming pool. If we talk about the issue, they refer to fund crisis, whereas every year they spend about Tk two to three core for subsiding JU School and College’s teachers and officials’ children.
However, JU Registrar Abu Bakar Siddique said, we are working to have a new and modern swimming pool and we have already applied to the government for fund. We want to start the work as soon as we get fund..
