Sri Lanka sweep Bangladesh to win Test series 2-0

Sri Lanka swept Bangladesh to win the two-match Test series 2-0 after defeating the hosts by 192 runs in the second Test on the fifth and final day at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram, the port city of the country on Wednesday.

Earlier, the Islanders registered an emphatic 328-run victory over the home side in the first Test at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on March 25.

Electing to bat first, Sri Lanka piled up a massive total of 531 runs in the first innings on the second day (Sunday).
In reply, Bangladesh scored 178 in the first innings on the third day (Monday).

The tourists declared their second innings making 157 for the loss of seven wickets on the fourth day and set a target of 511 runs to win for Bangladesh in the second innings.

The Tigers notched up 318 in the second innings on the fifth day (Wednesday).

Bangladesh resumed their second innings with the over-night score of 268 for the loss of seven wickets.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Taijul Islam resumed their second innings with the over-night score of 44 runs and 10 runs respectively.

Miraz alone fought back against the Sri Lanka’s superb bowling attack. Miraz remained unbeaten with 81 runs. His 110-ball innings was belted with 14 fours. Miraz fulfilled his seventh Test half-century using 62 deliveries including eight fours.

Taijul Islam (14) was caught at the gully by Nishan Madushka off Kamindu Mendis when Bangladesh’s score was 281 for the loss of eight wickets.

Miraz and Hasan Mahmud added together 31 runs in the ninth wicket partnership before Hasan Mahmud (6) was caught at the gully by Nishan Madushka off Lahiru Kumara when the Tigers’ total was 312 for the loss of nine wickets.
Khaled Mahmud (2) was bowled out by Lahiru Kumara when Bangladesh’s second innings came to an end.

Lahiru Kumara claimed four wickets in the space of 50 runs, while Kamindu Mendis captured three wickets at the cost of 32 runs.

Kamindu Mendis remained unbeaten with 92 runs in the first innings. Kamindu was adjudged the Man of the Match.
Kamindu altogether scored 367 runs and grabbed three wickets in two-match Test series. Kaminu was adjudged the Player of the Series for his outstanding performance.
