Court Correspondent :
A Dhaka court, for the third time, has deferred the judgment in the case involving two former teachers of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College, accused of allegedly driving their student, Aritri Adhikary, to commit suicide.

Judge Abdullah Al Mamun of the Twelfth Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court of Dhaka has rescheduled the pronouncement of the judgment for April 9.

Defense counsel Advocate Moshiur Rahman informed the media about the new date, stating that the court required additional time to prepare the verdict.

Previously, on November 27 last year, the court had scheduled January 21 as the date for the judgment, following the conclusion of both the prosecution and defense arguments.

The trial began on July 10, 2019, when charges were framed against the two teachers by the Third Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court.

Earlier on April 30, 2019, Dhaka’s Metropolitan Magistrate Sadbir Yasir Ahsan Chowdhury accepted the charge sheet filed in the case. The court also allowed the Investigation Officer's plea to drop the name of Aritri’s class teacher Hasna Hena from the case as allegations brought against her were not found true in the investigation.

Police on March 28, 2019, submitted the charge sheet against the then acting Principal of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College Nazneen Ferdous and morning shift in-charge of the school’s Bailey Road branch Zinat Akhtar.

Investigation Officer (IO) Inspector Qazi Qamrul Islam of Detective Branch (DB) of police submitted the charge sheet.

Aritri was found hanging from a ceiling fan of her residence in the capital’s Shantinagar area on December 3 of 2018, hours after she and her parents were allegedly insulted by the alleged teachers. She was rushed to Dhaka Medical College (DMCH) Hospital where physicians declared her dead.
