A Bangladeshi movie titled ‘Megher Kopat’, directed by Walid Ahmed, made its mark at the prestigious Suchitra Sen International Film Festival in New York, USA.
Out of 438 films from Bangladesh and India, ‘Megher Kopat’ secured a nomination for the feature section. The movie, which garnered praise at India’s ‘Global Independent Film Festival 2023’, winning multiple awards including ‘Best Foreign Film’ and ‘Best Director (Foreign Film)’, will be showcased on April 21 at the Jamaica Performing Arts Centre in New York, said a press release.
Director Walid Ahmed expressed his excitement, highlighting the movie’s journey from receiving accolades in India to being selected for screening at the 22nd Dhaka International Film Festival earlier this year.
He said that the international audience enjoyed the movie as much as the local audience did when it was released in Bangladesh cinemas last year.
Starring Rakib Hossain Evon, Cindy Rolling, Sabrina Tonni, and others, ‘Megher Kopat’ boasts a captivating storyline accompanied by five melodious songs penned by Walid Ahmed himself.
The music, featuring voices of renowned artists like Javed Ali and Rupankar Bagchi, adds depth to the movie’s narrative. After a successful four-week run in Dhaka’s Blockbuster Cinemas and screenings across Bangladesh, ‘Megher Kopat’ travelled to India for display under the South Asian Regional Free Trade Agreement (SAFTA).
Produced jointly by Walid Ahmed and Afroza Momen, the movie is a testament to Bangladesh’s growing presence in the global film industry. With actress Cindy Rolling representing the film at the festival, ‘Megher Kopat’ is poised to captivate audiences with its compelling storyline and mesmerising music.
