At the beginning of Bengali New Year 1431, noted Baul singer and former member of the Parliament, Momtaz Begum went to the United States for more than a month to participate in several stage shows there.
From USA, Momtaz told this correspondent that in the meantime, she has participated in a show at Times Square in the United States on April 13. She then performed music at another show in Connecticut on April 2. Then she participated in another show in Orlando, Florida.
On Friday, May 10, Momtaz will perform in a concert in Tennessee, one in Virginia on May 11, another in Tampa, Florida on May 12, and one more concert in Jamaica on May 17. She said that she will return to the country after two days.
In the meantime, Momtaz has experienced a different experience in the United States. An award was given to her on behalf of the Franklin Township in New Jersey on May 2. Shepa Uddin, the only Bangladeshi-American Councilwoman for Franklin Township, handed over the certificate there.
In her speech, Shepa Uddin said, “Inspired by Momtaz Begum, the culture and Bengaliness of Bangladesh has spread across the world.”
Regarding the honoree and seven consecutive shows, Momtaz told this correspondent, “There is no greater personality than loving people. I am Momtaz today because of people’s love. My passion and love for music has extended my time performing music at Times Square. Thank you for honoring me in New Jersey. My sincere gratitude to all concerned.”
“Last May 5 was my birthday. All those who are with me here have soaked me with their loves. But I miss everyone in the family. Maybe the day will be celebrated after returning home. And will be busy with the stage show back home. Now let’s talk about my personal jewelry show,” she added. Momtaz’s latest released song was ‘Tejpata’. Taposh composed the tune and music of the song. Her last popular song in the movie was ‘Raat Jaga Phool’ from the movie ‘Raat Jaga Phool’ directed by Mir Sabbir.
