Film actor Moushumi announced that she will run for the post of President of Bangladesh Cholochchitro Shilpi Samiti ,at the upcoming election of the Samity. The Samity hasn’t announced its manifesto yet; however, Moushumi announced her candidacy recently.
Actor Omar Sani, Moushumi’s husband, posted about the announcement on his Facebook profile. She is the first female to run for this post of the professional organization of the film actors in Bangladesh.
Moushumi was elected an executive member of the last Bangladesh Cholochchitro Shilpi Samity election in 2017. However, she did not take an oath for her position which created confusion about her engagement in the committee. Subsequently, Moushumi resigned from the position of executive member of the organisation.
Many popular actors, including Purnima, Ferdous, Riaz and Poppy, expressed their support for Moushumi.
Misa Sawdagar was the last president of Shilpi Samity.
